College & Career Connections
This internship influenced in many ways what career path I want to follow. I have had a few career paths that I have been heavily interested in over the past few years, and being a teacher was not one of them. As the days of the first week went by I had already realized what type of professional environment I want to be in. It made me realized that I want to focus on a career that involves helping younger people, which could potentially be in the teaching field. The internship very much opened my eye on what it takes to be an adult working in this field. It requires a lot of passion for your job, as dealing with a class of 28 students is not the easiest. My mentor, Chris Olivas, did a great job of opening my view on this, as time by time I saw him always willing to help his students out even when the time seemed stressful. How did it prepare me? This internship prepared me because I didn't really have one specific job at the internship. I was really "all over the place", this showed me what it is like to be in a teaching environment as you're not always just doing one job. For example some of jobs were, helping around in the class when students have questions or wonderings, curating past projects, lunch duty and organizing papers when it was needed.
